LET’S LIGHT UP KIRKHAM TOGETHER!
Funding was secured from LCC’s Cultural Fund and NLHF, along with Historic England, Fylde BC and Kirkham Town Council. This project involved the delivery of a high-quality inclusive engagement, delivered by creative professionals, for all ages and abilities.
“A fabulous day showcasing the spirit of Kirkham! Well done to all involved, especially Helen Juste and the KCC team.”
This project gave the community the opportunity to decide what heritage would be celebrated through the creation of lanterns. Providing individuals of all ages and abilities, with fantastic wellbeing opportunities, to explore heritage, develop their creativity, connect with others, and come together to enjoy a spectacular event, celebrate their achievements and the town’s rich heritage.
An inclusive programme of creative workshops was facilitated by professional artists Andy Shaw and Sharon Kelly, supported by fantastic volunteers. The engagement programme took place across a year, with targeted activities to promote inclusion, along with open workshops, including holiday activities for families to enjoy. This resulted in a festival of lanterns for the whole town to enjoy!
Positive Placemakers and Kirkham Cultural Consortium recognised the opportunity to extend the lantern parade into a day event, working with community organisations, schools and local business, to provide a fantastic street festival alongside the lantern parade. A festival was delivered utilising local venues, such as community centres and churches for displays, puppet performances, brass bands, live music and demonstrations. In the words of those who attended the event, it was AMAZING!
